A leavening agent is often used, like baking powder, to make the pancakes thick and fluffy. Pancakes are usually served for breakfast with maple syrup, fruits, cream cheese or bacon.
A Crepe is a type of a very thin pancake usually made from a wheat flour based batter. Crepes are thought to originate from Brittany, a region in the northwest of France but their consumption is widespread in many parts of Europe and other countries.
